The Cultural Partnership's "One Voice" Experience Plan for the Balboa Park Cultural District.

The Experience Plan is a concept that, when it becomes reality, will surely benefit all Park visitors . As you know, Balboa Park became its own Cultural District, as identified by the State of California, in 2017. Not since the long-ago Balboa Park Expositions has there been an effort to design a custom visitor experience for this Cultural District.

Over the past several decades, while many individual “Park Experiences” have been imagined and created, they have not always aligned in a way that amplifies a comprehensive, total experience. Critical elements such as the cultural organization offerings, arrival and parking considerations, vendors and buskers (street performers), interpretations of outdoor spaces, and additional amenities may all play a role in what the visitor takes away from the Park.

The Experience Plan must be developed through an equity lens. An important part of this work is engaging the IDEA Taskforce (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) to ensure that the Experience Plan considers all San Diegans. As such, broad outreach for plan development is essential.

Overall, an Experience Plan for the Balboa Park Cultural District can help everyone to improve how all of the individual parts work together for the benefit of the visitors, and of those providing the variety of experiences.
